Marbella is known as a glamorous resort town and is a favourite location with the rich and famous, boosted by foreign residents who are seduced by the lifestyle. But there’s plenty for ordinary folk to see and enjoy too in southern Spain’s answer to St Tropez.

Bask on the sands of famous La Fontanilla beach or ricochet among the area’s family-oriented water, wildlife and theme parks. Experience the Andalusian charm of the historic quarter, filled with whitewashed buildings, remnants of a ninth-century Arab fortress and fragrant orange trees. The old town of Marbella is absolutely charming. The streets are narrow and cobbled, with chic boutiques and local cafés side by side. You will find real hand made clothing and jewellery in the boutiques around the Old Town.
The ancient walled city retains nearly the same layout as in the 16th century. It is the perfect place to walk back in time and re-live history by visiting the historic fountain and a chapel built in the 1400s.
At the heart of the Old Town known as “El Casco Antiguo” lies the Orange Square (Plaza de los Naranjos). Have a Mediterranean meal here amongst the orange trees.
Alternatively stroll down the cobbled streets, which are alive with laughter and chatter from every corner. Enjoy the individual restaurants and bars, which are a perfect place to stop and breath in the aromas and romance that is Old town Marbella.
